Feed-In Tariffs came into force on 1 April 2010 and enable building and land owners earn revenue from generating your own energy - even if you use it yourself.

They have been introduced by the Government to increase the level of renewable energy in the UK towards our target of 15% of total energy from renewables by 2020 (up from under 2% in 2009).

How do the Feed-In Tariffs help?
The feed-in tariffs give three financial benefits:

  • A payment for all the electricity you produce, whether you use it yourself, or:
  • Export it into the grid, in which case you get an additional bonus payment, plus
  • For any energy you produce and use yourself, you will reduce your electricity bill

Who are they for?
Broadly speaking everyone, for example:

  • Households
  • Landlords
  • Businesses
  • Schools
  • Hospitals
  • Farmers
  • Care homes

The list goes on and on and includes entire communities coming together to invest in a renewable scheme from which they will all use the electricity and share the income.

Who can claim the tariffs?
Anyone who installs a renewable energy systems producing electricity after 15 July 2009 is eligible to claim the tariffs as long as they produce less than 5MW of power. Virtually every individual, business and property in England, Scotland and Wales is eligible.

How do I claim the tariffs?
The easiest way to get a renewable energy system and benefit from the Feed-in Tariffs is to find a system provider such as yes2wind Energy who will handle all the red tape for you. They will also be able to act as an agent to claim the tariffs on behalf of the beneficiaries.

What sort of renewable energy system will I require?
The following sources of renewables are eligible: anaerobic digestion, hydro-electric, micro-CHP, solar photo-voltaic and wind generation.
